Goodlatte’s Mixed Record

Bob Goodlatte is part of a broken system. When he was in the majority, Bob Goodlatte:
- Spent more than $2,000 per American worker on agribusiness subsidies.
- Increased each American worker’s debt by more than $10,000, in increased Federal debt, much of that owed to foreign creditors.
- Attempted to eliminate overtime pay for overtime work (HR 1380, 106th Congress).

During Goodlatte’s twelve years in the Republican majority, 1995-2007, his Agriculture Committee spent $288 billion on agriculture = $ 2,100 per U.S. taxpayer. That’s not fair to the rest of us. During the corresponding twelve years, Goodlatte received agribusiness political contributions of more than $1.26 million.

In six years, 2001-07, Goodlatte’s Republicans ran up the U.S. debt by an extra $1,446,000,000,000 = $1.45 trillion = $10,500 per taxpayer + $300 in annual interest, forever. (just about)

Current U.S. debt, a long-term legacy of alternating Republican and Democratic rule:

  • $9 trillion and rising = $65,000 / taxpayer
  • almost 50% foreign-owned

Our country needs to turn things around, and now!
